Tobie van Dyk biosketch
Tobie van Dyk, ICELDA’s director: operations, is a professor and director of the Centre for Academic and Professional Language Practice of North-West University’s Potchefstroom campus. He began his career as junior lecturer in the Department of Afrikaans at the University of Pretoria in 1997, before being appointed there as lecturer in the Unit for Academic Literacy. Until the end of 2012 he headed up the Unit for Afrikaans and English in Stellenbosch University’s Language Centre. Tobie has been working intensively on different kinds of language courses and language tests designed for different purposes since 2004. He is currently collaborating with the University of Antwerp on a South African version of their Nurses on the move project, and is also involved with the Radboud University in Nijmegen on a diagnostic test of academic literacy for postgraduate students.
