Vyftig leerlinge van die Hoërskool Waterkloof het Donderdag 'n kursus bygewoon ter voorbereiding vir die toetse van akademiese geletterdheid wat hulle eersdaags sal aflê. Universiteite gebruik hierdie toetse of vir toelating of om nuweling-studente te plaas op addisionele taalkursusse. Daar is 'n verskeidenheid sulke toetse, waarvan die sg. National Benchmark Tests of NBT's seker die bekendste is. Die NBT's bestaan uit twee bene: wiskunde en akademiese en kwantitatiewe geletterdheid of AQL. Die werkswinkel by Waterkloof het op akademiese en kwantitatiewe geletterdheid gefokus. Albert Weideman, 'n direkteur van ICELDA, en Zonia Fereirra, 'n gesoute onderwyseres met jarelange ondervinding, was die aanbieders. Op die vraag of 'n mens kan voorberei vir die NBT’s is Albert Weideman se antwoord 'n eenvoudige 'ja':

“Since we were unable before to assist in this regard, we are really heartened by the availability of the new workbooks of academic literacy tests that will help Grade 12 learners to prepare for the Academic and Quantitative Literacy test of the National Benchmark Tests (NBT)”, says Duard le Roux of Purple Pepper Maths.
