Anna Pot We would like to congratulate Anna Pot, intern at ICELDA in 2013 and now a research fellow, who has just been appointed as teaching assistant at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG). In her dissertation on Diagnosing academic language ability, that formed part of her MA at the RUG which she obtained summa cum laude, Anna analysed ICELDA’s Test of Academic Literacy for Postgraduate Students (TALPS). The study identified not only the diagnostic information that TALPS yields, but also suggested ways in which its design can be improved. She has in the meantime co-authored two papers on this study. The first, with her supervisor, Albert Weideman, as co-author, has been submitted to Language Matters. The second, with Rebecca Patterson and Albert Weideman, will be presented in March at the upcoming conference of the American Association of Applied Linguistics (AAAL) in Oregon, and entitled “Construct refinement in tests of academic literacy”. Anna’s duties as teaching assistant at RUG include recruiting students for their exciting new BA and MA programme in Minorities and Multilingualism, and assisting with the teaching of statistics. We wish her well!
