Albert Weideman giving IEB presentation The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) holds annual conferences for the secondary school subjects that are offered at schools that write its exams. At the most recent of these, held in Johannesburg in February, Albert Weideman, ICELDA CEO, was asked to make a presentation on the assessment of languages at school. His presentation to the subject group for Afrikaans First Additional Language focused on the conceptual framework for the assessment of languages provided by the new curriculum (CAPS). In the presentation, he referred to the lessons that ICELDA’s investigating team had learned on the Home Languages project. This project, originally undertaken for Umalusi, is intended to ensure greater fairness across the various examination papers for Home Languages in Grade 12. Its results are also relevant, however, for the examination of all languages at school. A summary of the presentation is available.
