Academic literacy through acculturation ICELDA’s involvement in academic literacy debates has been highlighted in several papers in the latest issue (volume 47, number 2) of the Journal for Language Teaching. In one contribution, Prof. Kris Van de Poel of the University of Antwerp, and Prof. Tobie van Dyk of NWU place the spotlight on how one could design more responsible academic literacy interventions by attending to a number of complementary insights and perspectives. Entitled “Towards a responsible agenda for academic literacy development: considerations that will benefit students and society”, the paper specifically puts into the spotlight the role of conceiving an intervention as one of academic acculturation rather than more narrowly focussing only on language development.
