Colleen du Plessis biosketch
Colleen du Plessis is a lecturer in the Department of English, University of the Free State. She obtained a distinction for her master’s dissertation on The design, refinement and reception of a test of academic literacy for postgraduate students. The study was done to refine and develop a further version of ICELDA’s test for postgraduate students, TALPS. By dealing with all important aspects of test design she gave a comprehensive account of more than just test development. Her other fields of interest include language in education and academic literacy assessment in the Further Education and Training (FET) phase. She is currently undertaking a validation study of the Grade 12 exit-level Home Language examination papers as part of her doctoral thesis.
